Alumnus Anneke Seely, who has been Head of Student and Library Services at New College Franklin, will be leaving this summer to pursue a Masters of Arts in Counseling at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida! Anneke has written a reflection on her time at New College Franklin and her goals in pursuing this degree.

I have had the rare privilege of attending New College Franklin and serving on staff. Since graduating in 2019 and joining the staff the same summer, I have managed the library, assisted in recruiting and administration, helped organize college events, and mentored and discipled the female students.

Pursing a degree in Counseling was in the back of my mind when I came on staff at NCF and my work with the students has clarified and strengthened that call. As time passed, it became clear that my heart was to attend a program where I could learn with instructors and fellow students in person, rather than online, and where I could study counseling in a professional setting that was also integrated with the teachings of the Bible. Reformed Theological Seminary seems to be the best place to do that.

Alas, heading off to seminary has meant leaving my beloved community at New College Franklin, for the time being at least. I deeply value the precious, joyful spirit of the community at NCF as well as at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. Doing life and loving the Lord together with these dear saints has been a privilege and a delight.

I am also deeply grateful that I get to pursue counseling at an organization whose values are so similar to the community that I’ve been a part of for almost seven years. The value of community and the importance of the spiritual, mental, and emotional growth of each individual person in the community will be an incredible blessing as I engage in the work of learning to become a counselor. I’m grateful to Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando for embodying these values and welcoming me into their community.
