“Few topics are more vexed and confusing in our various contemporary contexts than that of what it means to be male and female. Our grasp upon our nature weakened by the forces of modernity and their attendant ideological influences, we may try to assemble compensatory lists of rules and roles or to articulate definitions, but the former feel brittle and the latter thin. Returning to the Scriptures and thinking more broadly as Christians, however, we can achieve much greater clarity on these complex topics.
The lecture will explore a series of clarifying insights that we can bring to our consideration of our being male and female. These insights will help us better understand the position from which we are asking these questions, the difficulties that we and our societies more generally are having navigating these realities, and the resources that Christian wisdom can bring to the challenge.”
